Amazing Trip and Thorough Planning
We had an amazing four-day tour of Rwanda and Uganda with Hooves of Africa. Our trip started and ended in Kigali and it included visiting the Genocide Memorial in Kigali before traveling to Volcano National Park to trek with golden monkeys and then crossing the border into Uganda for a mountain gorilla trek in the Bwindi Impenetrable Rain Forest. Dickson was always very responsive to our email inquiries as we planned this trip and provided us with detailed and thorough information to help us plan this adventure. He was especially helpful with photography tips and information before the trip, which helped prepare me to make the most of the time with had with both the golden monkeys and the mountain gorillas. Dickson came and met us at our hotel in Kigali and introduced us to our guide/driver for this trip, Balam. Balam was an amazing and entertaining guide. He was so informative as to the history of the region as well as knowing so much about the flora and fauna of Rwanda and Uganda. He went out of his way to show us a variety of the birds of the region and shared all sorts of insight at to the plants that we saw along our trip. Our accommodations both in Rwanda and Uganda were fantastic and we had very good treks for both the golden monkeys and the mountain gorillas. Balam went above and beyond in making sure that we were in good group for our gorilla trek so that we weren't overtaxed with the hike but at the same time paired with a ranger who was very knowledgeable and helpful. The Best 6 Days of Your Life - Chimps, Golden Monkeys, Gorillas and More!
If you are even thinking about a primate trekking trip to Rwanda and Uganda, look no further than this one right here (and ask for Elton and Dixon as your guides)! This was, without exaggerating, one of THE most magical travel experiences of my life, and it could be yours too. My friend and I did a 6-day tour that included chimp and golden monkey trekking in Rwanda and gorilla trekking in Uganda. Elton and Dixon made every single part of this trip feel effortless, safe, and super fun. Before we even got on the plane, they sent over a super detailed day-by-day itinerary, packing list, and tips on trekking etiquette so we knew exactly what to expect. The treks themselves were unforgettable. We saw every animal we hoped to see (and more!). Elton and Dixon’s knowledge of the wildlife and local culture was top tier and I left understanding so much more about the region than I anticipated. Safety and comfort were never a question. Meals were included and delicious and the lodges we stayed in were honestly stunning – made me question if I even wanted to go trekking when I could just enjoy the view right from my balcony. This was the ultimate trip with equal parts adventure, comfort, and connection with nature. Our group dynamic with Elton and Dixon was genuinely a blast and you could tell they’re both clearly passionate about what they do. I cannot recommend it enough for anyone planning a trip like this. Dixon and his team are the most amazing guides in Uganda. Very knowledgeable, super polite and punctual. It’s a delight to do business with them each time I am in Uganda. To start, visiting Africa has always been a dream of mine! I’ve looked into going so many times. As soon as I found Hooves of Africa, out of curiosity I contacted them to plan and see what kind of itinerary would work for me ( a solo traveler ) of course I was nervous, and a bit hesitant but Dickson who was working with me answered every single question I had, made every adjustment I requested ( I requested a lot ) without any complaints, and was patient as I decided which programs, and lodges I wanted! As soon as i arrived, I met my guide Balaam! Within the first hour of our drive to the lodge, I couldn’t have been happier. He was extremely welcoming, funny and kind. We spent 6 days traveling through Uganda and I left feeling like I was not traveling alone but with a friend. Every lodge, program and experience was exactly what I wanted and hoped for. Wildlife at its very best
We had a six days safari with Balaam as our guide. In short, every day was equally spectacular. We have seen so many animals. The game drive offered us various lions, two leopards (not the same one, because the first had a visible chest wound, probably from a horn), elephants, hippos, buffalos, antilopes, warthogs (the funniest creatures that never bore), turtles, chameleons, lizzards, crocs, water bucks. The chimpanzee trekking was a great experience because we got to see them for an hour in just our little group of four. The gorilla trekking was nothing shy of spectacular. So close and there was even interaction with two babies. The golden monkeys are very cute. The country has everything to offer and the landscape changes constantly when driving.

I highly recommend Hooves of Africa, Dickson was fantastic to deal with when we were planning our trip to Rwanda & Uganda. Buffalo our guide was the best, his knowledge of the 2 countries was unbelievable, nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation booked by Dickson was amazing, every place was unique. We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Hooves of Africa Safaris. The accommodation was comfortable and well-organized, exactly what you need after long days in the bush. Our guide was truly exceptional — knowledgeable, passionate, and full of fascinating stories about the wildlife and local culture. What impressed us most was his ability to spot animals almost instantly, even when they were hidden deep in the vegetation. Thanks to him, we didn’t miss a single moment. Wonderful trip with a great company!
We had a wonderful 6 day trip with Hooves Of Africa. We picked Hooves because we needed a six day itinerary. Everything was organised perfectly from the start. Many thanks to our guide Stephen and the organiser Dixon for arranging a great week for us! We were collected from our accommodation in Kigali on time and the whole week was very smooth. All activities and permits all sorted and each accommodation was great! The car was comfortable, border crossings really easy and we achieved our dream of seeing the mountain gorillas and seeing some of beautiful Uganda & Rwanda! 8 day trip of a lifetime
We booked a 8 day Uganda/Rwanda wildlife tour. Our guide Arafat was excellent, great sense of humour, very knowledgeable, always felt safe with him! The accommodations were great along the way. Professional and personalised service from a great team
Ten days with guided and unguided walks around Western Uganda parks and villages, including two excursions in Bwindi IF ( more than worth it - the forest ecosystem is our heritage and conserving it is our collective responsibility). Excellent organisation and most accommodating reorganisation according to our numerous requests. Lodges were mainly low key and peaceful as we like.
