This package is made for clients who have limited time for a longer safari but have few days at their disposal and are interested in seeing mountain gorillas in Uganda’s Mgahinga national park. Uganda hosts about 51% of the total remaining mountain gorillas making it your top destination to see these great apes. Mgahinga has one gorilla family known as Nyakagezi and is famous for having 3 massive silverbacks (Mark, Mathew and Mafia) living together in harmony with Mark as the dominant silverback.

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1: Pick up and drive to Mgahinga National Park (Kisoro)

Pick up at an agreed destination, have a short briefing with your safari guide about the journey of today, Kampala to the western region of Uganda that’s that rich in culture is famous for the Ankole long horned cattle and the most energetic and hardworking people-Bakiga that inhabit the Kigezi hills. Throughout this long drive, we will have several interesting stops as we interact and learn more about the social cultural and political aspects of the local people. Pay attention to your guide as he explains about the lives of the local people. We will have a hot lunch in Mbarara and then we proceed to Kisoro town where we will check in at your lodge and overnight.

Day 2: The Ultimate Gorilla Tracking experience

Today, you will have a golden chance to trek the famous mountain gorillas of Nyakagezi group. After your early breakfast, you will have short drive to the parking area, where you will move all your trekking equipment’s and take on a short hike to the UWA briefing Centre and starting point of your gorilla trek. Here, you will be welcomed with local traditional dance and presentation by the local communities, be taken through the dos and don’ts while tracking gorillas. After registration and briefing with the rangers, you will be lead by the armed rangers to the forest and start looking for gorillas.

The trekking can or may take 2 hours or even a whole day since the nature of the trek is unpredictable. We recommend you to carry enough drinking water, picnic lunch, rain gear since there is a possibility of rain pouring anytime, hiking shoes and gloves. After briefing, you will be assigned to family which will trek in a group of eight pax. You will be led by the armed ranger guides off the forest to search for the gorillas.

After gorillas have been located, you will have one full hour viewing them as they go on with their daily lives at a distance of 7-10 meters. You will be allowed to use your camera and phones but in silence and to remove the flash so that you can photograph and capture this moment of lifetime.

After the one hour your will trek back the vehicle and return to lodge with a lot of memories and storis to take back home. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Drive from Kisoro to Kampala.

After your early breakfast (06:30hrs), we will depart from Kisoro (07:00hrs Departure time) as we head towards the central parts of Uganda. This is a long drive with over 9 hours however it is action packed with a lot of scenic and photographic stops en route. We will have our hot lunch in Mbarara and later embark on the journey to the equator where we will pause for few minutes to take some photos. In case you would like to shop for some souvenirs, the equator is one of those places where you can buy some crafts. Drop off in Entebbe.

What we recommend for Gorilla Tracking

  • We recommend your carry a face mask and if possible and extra one. Its mandatory to wear face masks while in presence of gorillas to protect both the gorillas and the people you’re travelling or tracking with.
  • We recommend nature blending colors. (Avoid loud colors)
  • Since Bwindi Impenetrable is a tropical rain forest, we recommend you have a pair of hiking shoes and hiking gloves.
  • In Bwindi, it can rain any time of the day and the forest floor is always wet, we recommend you to carry rain gear (Rain Coat or Waterproof Jacket will come in handy)
  • We also recommend you wear or have Long-Sleeved Shirts and Hiking Pants/Trousers.
  • If you have Cameras, we recommend you carry extra SD cards and batteries if possible. Also make sure that your phones are fully charged and have enough space to record some videos.
  • Ensure you water bottle are full before heading out to the forest.
  • Ensure you have packed lunch since this activity can take between 2-6 hours or more.
